When I received my Quest 2 device it was packaged under the name Oculus Quest 2 rather than the Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset. I don’t think much has changed outside of the name of the company, but here is my review of the VR device so far.
I initially decided to try out virtual reality because I wanted to utilize the meditation and relaxation apps and experiences. But as someone who loves gaming, I didn’t realize how much fun I would have playing mini golf or shooting zombies.
The headset itself is front heavy and cumbersome. I know the original Oculus Quest device was made with a hard strap and the Quest 2 features a fabric strap. I’m unsure if the manufacturer was going for a, fabric equals comfort, approach or affordability on their part.
But fabric definitely makes the headset incredibly uncomfortable after an hour of use. I was able to add an extended battery power pack to the back of the strap which helped balance out the weight a bit.
Battling with virtual reality sickness is still an issue for me so making sure the headset is comfortable helps offset some of the queasiness. Here is a list of games that may help you to avoid VR sickness.
The new Meta Quest Pro seemed like an exciting innovation for the virtual reality and augmented reality blended VR/AR headset market but the focus for that is on business meetings and they haven’t made all existing games available for play.
Not to mention the price of $1,500 is out of the ballpark for most gamers. Without a guarantee that they will be able to play all of the games they have already purchased on Meta, most are waiting on the Meta Quest 3 to be released.
There are other headsets being sold by Sony and HTC, as well as an anticipated VR/AR device soon to be released by Apple. Most top ten blogs rate Meta Quest 2 to be superior to others, however I have not tried them myself.
I would say that the Meta Quest 2 is a good option for now if you would like to get into VR gaming. The price seems to be increasing rather than decreasing, which is an odd phenomenon for technology, but you can use my referral code for a discount.
